Using Mobile Phone Data for Official Statistics on Tourism

The next webinar in our series on Mobile Phone Data for Official Statistics will cover the subject of Tourism.

Usually, tourism statistics relies on conventional data sources, such as survey and administrative data, with each of them having their own strengths and limitations: coverage, timeliness, granularity and data quality issues.

Nowadays, countries face challenges and need more detailed and timely information about people mobility. At the same time, governments have recognized the important economic, social and environment impact of tourism.

Our guests are Mrs. Alfatihah Reno, from Statistics Indonesia, and Mr. Siim Esko, from Positium, a company specializing in work with mobile phone data. They will show us more details on how to produce tourism statistics using mobile phone data, as well as some examples in their countries.

The webinar will be on February 9th at 11 am (GMT-3) and will be in English.
